Beginners Group

Currently, our beginner group is full but please keep an eye on this page as we will update you as soon as possible when the next group will start. If you have any further queries please don't hesitate to contact us through the usual channels.

This group will be aimed specifically at those who have no previous experience of running. You do not need to be fit but if you have any health issues you should seek medical advice before starting any fitness program. The course will run between 6 and 10 weeks (longer if needed) and will be adapted to suit the abilities of those who turn up. Once you have completed the course you will be encouraged to join our regular Wednesday sessions.

Please use the online form to register for the group. This contains an additional registration for the Run England website. You do not have to fill this part in but it does benefit both you and the sport of running in general. The main form is needed to join the group. No personal details will be passed onto third party groups without your specific permission.

1. How much is the course?

The course is provided free of charge by Running Forever Running Club. You do not need to be a member of the club to take part though you will need to join if you wish to take part in any of the other club sessions.

2. Are qualified group leaders used?

Yes! The course is run by a group leader registered with England Athletics and all groups are led by experienced runners.

3. I'm not very fit. I'd quite like to be able to run but have never had the confidence to do it before.

We will take things very gently to start with a combination of running and walking round French Weir park. Remember that everyone who runs has started where you are now. You will be with a group of similar people and making the decision to start running is the first and possibly the hardest step. We will provide everything you need to support you. All we ask in return is that you supply the determination and commitment to succeed.

4. Do I need any special equipment?

You need a pair of trainers and clothing that you are comfortable to run in. Specialist running equipment is available of course but try the sport out before investing in anything. The most expensive and important piece of equipment will be your shoes which can have a massive effect on how you run and injury prevention. If it's hot you will also need something to drink; water is fine. And don't forget the sunscreen!

5. How often should I run and can I do other sport?

Ideally, at first, you should aim to run twice a week leaving a few days between runs to allow your body to recover. Not everyone will be able to run at the same time so speak with other group members to arrange a time and place to run together. Generally, most people find it easier to run in a group than on their own.

6. Is there a Facebook group for club beginners?

Yes! It's at This is where we will post information about the session and where you can arrange runs outside the session.
