Weekly Round-up 23 July

Exeter 10K - Wednesday 19 July

Five of us made the short trip to Exeter on Wednesday night for their 10K. It was a lovely evening for running. First club finisher was Simon Denson who ran 39.47, being chased home by Lisa Denson in 51.32. The Welchman team of Goff (56.19) and Cathie (68.09) also took part, along with Gill Taunton who finished in 57.27. Some excellent times there given the humid conditions and lots of age group placings proving running isn’t just for the youngsters (more of that in a piece Goff has written for us next week).

We’d also like to give a mention to our Hannah Taunton who is a club member but races in Taunton Athletic colours. Hannah is super speedy and often wins events in times the rest of us can only dream about, but she didn’t have the best of races and wasn’t on top form on Wednesday night. Despite feeling unwell, Hannah carried on and finished the race (in a time which is still far out of reach for most of us). A lesson to us all in making the best of it and not giving up when it’s not all going our way in a race.

RFRC Weekend Wanderings 22/23 July

Another quieter weekend as lots of people were off on holiday to sunny climes.

Ali Bisatt and 4 friends took part in the Cotswold 24 hour race. This is a relay event with the team taking turns to do laps of the multi terrain course. Ali’s team completed 185 miles over the 24hours and took 2nd place in their category. Sounds like a tough one!

It was the 200th running of our local parkrun at Longrun meadow and it was great to see 33 Club members take up the challenge of the Stripes theme. It was RFRC member Dave Bullock’s 100th parkrun.

Quite a few of us taking to the road for a bit of summer parkrun tourism this weekend too. Sally Tuer was in Salisbury, Malcolm Hutchings went to Torbay, Helen Phillips tackled the Boston course and the Taunton ladies, Hannah & Gill, were in Lloyd Park. I took myself to the Stonehaven parkrun in North East Scotland which had only 35 runners this week. It’s great trying out new courses but lovely to come back to nice and flat Longrun Meadow!
