Weekly Round-up 2nd January

With the New Year celebrations over, it was a case of race kit on and make a flying start to 2018 for the Running Forever members who made the short journey to Chard for the Chard Flyer. Run on the 1st January, this 10K race is organised by the Chard Road Runners.

There was a prize-winning start to the year for Bev Collins who was first F55 finisher in a time of 48.35. Next home was Pat Date in 49.02, closely followed by Trevor Stow (51.08) and Chris Reah (53.44). Tanya Herbison completed the course in 55.44, Sally Tuer in 57.43 with Rob Murr (58.27) and Helen Moffatt (58.50) just behind them. Our final finishers were Paul Clowes 1.02, Samantha Cross (1.03) and Eliza Brodie in 1.11. Great way to start the year guys!

Ali Bisatt travelled to Kewstoke to take part in the Hangover 10K. With a finish time of 41.21 and a 3rd place in the V50 category I think I can safely say that Ali’s idea of a hangover and mine are completely opposite ends of the spectrum.

With the last parkrun of the year on Saturday, we had a lot of tourists out and about. Emma Kiernan is still in a land Down Under and took in the St Peter’s parkrun but nearer to home we had runners in Harrow, Boston, Birkenhead as well as more locally in Minehead, Burnham and Exmouth. Twenty-seven squelched their way round Longrun Meadow.

With no local run on New Years Day, parkrunners travelled to Killerton, Shepton Mallet, Bideford and Tamar Lakes.

If you’ve ever thought that this running lark might be something you’d enjoy, we have a beginners group starting on the 17th January. This group will be run by a qualified coach and will give you the support and confidence you need to join the main club group in only a few months. No experience necessary, although we also welcome those who are returning to running after some time off. The course is completely free but we do need you to complete a registration form at and click on the Beginners Group tab on the left of the page.
